Membership is open to any person 21 years of age or older. Each meeting will have a theme and feature various wines related to the theme. It is not a requirement to consume any wine to participate in the meetings. Meetings will also consist of prepared speeches, “Table Topic” discussions, and peer evaluations, all geared to helping the member build confidence in communication and leadership skills.
Prepared Speeches
Each meeting, scheduled speakers will have a prepared speech using the Toastmasters communication manual to provide objectives which build speaking skills. Most speeches are from 5 to 7 minutes long.
Table Topics
Table Topics gives everyone a chance to speak at each meeting, and helps to improve impromptu speaking skills. The Table Topics Master will have prepared some questions on various topics and members have the opportunity to speak for 1 to 2 minutes on the topic.
Evaluations
The most helpful part of the Toastmasters meeting is the evaluations. An evaluator is your peer who will listen to your speech and provide some feedback to let you know what things you did well and offer some helpful advice in improving your presentation. This is the signature element of a Toastmasters meeting.
Wine Tasting
Each meeting will usually have about three different wines to taste and are served at various intervals during the meeting. The Toastmaster of the Day will select a theme around the wines and provide food pairings to accompany your tasting.
Toasts
We begin each meeting with an opening toast and end the meeting with a closing toast. Learn the proper way to toast and practice giving toasts in a friendly social environment
Dinner Meetups
Occasionaly we will schedule dinner meetups where we put our speaking, toasting, and social skills to practice in a real dinner environment. We will always be pairing our wines with dinner whether it is provided or you bring your own bottle.
